Q. What is La Porte County Gives?

La Porte County Gives (a.k.a. Give Day) is a day of giving to benefit La Porte County now and forever. It is an initiative of Unity Foundation of La Porte County in honor of Unity's 30th Anniversary.

Q. When is La Porte County Gives?

The 30 hour Give Day runs from 2 p.m. central time on September 30 until 8 p.m. central time on October 1.

Q. Who can participate?

Unity-affiliated permanent funds that have registered by September 9 and who have been approved by Unity Foundation of La Porte County are eligible to participate. Registration will begin in June and trainings will be provided to introduce participants to the platform and answer questions.

Q. How will participating funds benefit from La Porte County Gives?

All funds raised will be matched! Unity has raised a pool of matching funds, which will be allocated to participating funds in proportion to funds raised. Raise a little, get a little; raise a lot…get a lot! (but no more than 20% of the matching pool for any one fund or entity) Funds raised will be split 50-50 between principal and spendable, creating cash for today AND tomorrow.  $31,000 in special prizes will be offered, thanks to the Unity Foundation Board of Directors.

Q. Who can donate?

Anyone may donate. Donations by credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express), bank account (ACH transfer, minimum donation $100), or mobile wallet (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Microsoft Pay) can be made through the La Porte County Gives online portal during the 30 hour Give Day. The fees for La Porte County Gives include a 3.5% GiveGab fee for all transactions, plus either a credit card fee or ACH fee, depending on the payment type a donor selects. Credit card fees are 2.5% + $0.30 per transaction and ACH fees are $3 per transaction.

Donations by check or cash (and grants from Donor Advised Funds) will be accepted at Unity's office from Wednesday, September 14 until Thursday, September 29 at noon. Checks must have the fund name written on the memo line. Checks, cash, and DAF grants received after the deadline will go to the desired fund but will not be counted toward the Leaderboard or special prizes. Donations are tax-deductible and irrevocable. All donations will be granted for use by the participating funds in accordance with their fund agreements.

Q. What if donors wish to be anonymous?

Through our giving platform, donors may remain anonymous if they choose.

Q. How will donations be distributed?

Donations and special prizes for participating funds will be placed in the fund within 30 days after the Give Day. Disbursements from the Spendable portions of the fund will be made in accordance with the underlying Fund Agreement or upon contacting the Unity Foundation.  All disbursements shall be made minus $100 to cover some of the platform costs, plus any applicable fees.

Q. How do we make sure gifts to our fund count toward La Porte County Gives?

All results will be live and on-line as soon as the Leaderboard goes live at the beginning of Give Day (September 30, 2022 at 2:00).

Q. Can people make donations via a mobile device?

Yes! Simply visit laportecountygives.net on your mobile device.

Q. How much can someone donate?

The minimum gift is $10. There is no maximum per gift, nor maximum per fund or entity. Donors are encouraged to make gifts to one or more funds of their choice. Each gift of $10 or more to a different fund will be counted on the Give Day Leaderboard.
